Wanaka

In the mid-year break, Sam and Abi came with us for a skiing holiday in Wanaka. Everyday we drove up a scary mountain road to the Cardrona ski fields. It was amazing. I had been put off snowsports by a clumsy attempt at snowboarding years before, but skiing is much easier...and less painful!

Dunedin II

Our new home
After about a month of living in the old flat with 7 other people, Hugh and I went on the search for a new place... We came across a magical little house in a green valley which are slowly making our own...

Me and Chrisi on Sandfly Bay

Clare and Lloyd
Clare and Lloyd came over for a short but very sweet visit. We did lots of wholesome activities such as horse riding, playing with penguins and sealions on Sandfly Bay, and choosing the sweetest kitten in the world from the SPCA (see separate 'Bobby' section...). Note that the photos of us jumping on the beach at Sandfly Bay were steeped in great risk - the sealion in the background charged at Clare and Lloyd moments later. Never seen Clare run that fast hehe.

On the way to Christchurch we visited the Moeraki Boulders. They are amazing spherical boulders that look like dinosaur eggs sitting in the surf. They were produced from calcium carbonate deposited around a central nucleus about 65 million years ago, and have these amazing crystallised veins. You can see them being 'born' out of the soft mudstone cliff as the sea erodes it away...

The last bit of kiwi light Clare and Lloyd saw before flying back to Aus... missing you both already xx
